Robin Goodfellow has been independent for over 12 years, initially under the name of Robin Goodfellow, from April 1989. In this time over 1200 days of Consultancy, Education and Training have been provided to over 50 organizations, from the small to the very large. Some courses have been delivered in-house, some at local hotels, and others at custom-built education centres. They have all been well received, and references are available, if required. The Institute of Operations Management (formerly the British Production and Inventory Control Society, BPICS) uses Robin Goodfellow to conduct it's public MRPII courses 3 times per year. The material used was originally developed for BEC Group, for whom some product specific courses were also developed. The Institute uses Robin to run part of it's public education program, specifically in delivering 'Material and Capacity Requirements Planning' and 'Master Planning' courses. Customers also request in-house courses, and the IOM uses Robin to run the relevant courses. The work has been a balance of generic education and product specific training. All have been in a wide range of manufacturing situations - make-to-stock, make-to-order, assemble-to-order, and engineer-to-order - and in differing types of manufacturing company - project, job shop, discrete batch, repetitive, and batch process. The clients have been at differing stages in their implementations. For some, it was a first course, aimed at providing initial education to the project team involved in product selection. For others, it was education, delivered after product selection, to senior and middle management, on the basics of MRPII, to provide understanding of the organization, discipline, and hierarchy necessary for successful MRPII implementation. For many MRP had been in use for a number of years, but the realized benefits had never matched those expected. Worldwide competition had begun to eat away at market share, and the companies decided they needed to embark upon a re-implementation if they were to survive. The project task teams were established, and MBE provided the generic education, and consulted on the teams. MBE also provided product specific courses to a number of companies on 2 specific MRPII products, BAMCS from Unisys and MTMS from BEC Group. Some courses were module specific to individual departments, whilst others were overview courses for a wide range of personnel, from directors to senior and middle managers to shop floor supervisors. He has also worked with Fourth Shift, and with Baan. Robin has helped many manufacturing concerns to get their MRP and MRPII implementations to be more effective, more structured, and to stand a better chance of achieving the benefits laid out in the original justification.
